I rode my bike home from work today and my path takes me past a local boba tea place. I really wanted boba tea, but I really didn’t want to pay $8 for it (like I may or may not have done last week…), so here’s the version I made at home and was quite pleased with.

First off, assemble your ingredients
- 5 minute boba pearls (I have black sugar flavor here, but they’re very mild in flavor)
- Fresh strawberries
- Pre-made strawberry lemonade (I got this brand at Costco)
- Ice (optional if your lemonade is already cold)
- Mint leaves (also optional, more for smell than flavor)
- Pint glass and boba straw
Next, prepare your boba. The brand I have came from a local Asian mart, and the instructions have you boil the boba for two to three minutes, then turn off the burner and allow to sit for another two to three minutes. I like mine chewy, so I did a total of 5 minutes, but you can go longer if you like it softer.
While the boba is boiling, cut up two-ish strawberries in small enough chunks to fit up your boba straw. Eat the extra strawberries you got out.

Once your boba has finished boiling and is cooled down, put the strawberries and boba into your glass. Top with ice (I definitely used too much). Go pick your mint leaves and rinse them off, then crunch them up a little with your hands and put them on top of the ice.

Finally, pour your lemonade over the ice and mix with your boba straw. Enjoy your homemade delicious boba drink! I love making these at home because I can put more of the toppings I want and top off with more of the drink part if I need to.
