I already made a whole blog post about my schedule on my professional blog, but I had some additional thoughts for here.

Overall, I’m pretty excited about classes starting again. I’m really hoping that being in upper level classes helps increase my motivation again. Since the last year has been primarily core requirements that have been super easy (I have a 4.0 for UNR), I have been wishing I could go back to adult world. I also miss the pay from full-time work, although I do not miss full-time work itself.

I am still glad that I was able to take these basic classes even though I had learned about 60-75% of the content just by working. I think that a lot of people, especially knowledge workers, could benefit from more business-focused classes as part of university requirements. Although I was able to figure a lot of this stuff out on my own, I would have had a greater head start the first time around if my science degree would have included some “here’s how the company you’ll inevitably work for should probably run.”

I also realized that I’ve been back in school full-time for a year now. Time is flying so fast. Both my nephew and niece are over a year old now, my nephew is walking and his cousin isn’t too far behind. I think watching the kids grow up is already my favorite way of noticing time moving on. I just hope that I get a “real” job when I graduate so I can get money pounding into savings accounts for when they’re ready to go out on their own. Although I don’t want to make my own little human, I still want to contribute to the futures of the littles in my life.

This semester is going to be so busy, my classes are all so late in the day. We’re actually probably going to get a meal plan for on-campus so that I can eat dinner with my husband a couple times a week. Although I’m excited for the content of my classes, I am not excited for my schedule and I’m worried about not having time for myself. I am so grateful that we were able to take time off work before the semester started at least.

Anyway, drop your tips for surviving a too-busy schedule below, I need all the help I can get.

Uhhhhhhgggghhh. I’m in school for my second bachelor’s and I just found out I have to fill out a form every semester that reminds them that I’m actively working towards finishing my degree, because I “have too many credits.”

I’m wondering if colleges got in trouble for letting people go to school too long and wracking up massive student loans or something. Otherwise, this process is just generating paperwork for no reason other than to keep some poor office worker busy.

I’ve been thinking about work and how so much office work could be done by an automated program at this point. So many companies are paying people just to move paperwork from one pile to another, with too much other paperwork relying on that first piece making it to the right pile. I know there’s a portion of it that is probably required by some government office somewhere along the line, but I think there’s a decent chance that was just done for busy work for someone else too.

Not going to lie, part of the reason I went back to school was so I could take the time to learn how to automate all of my past jobs into obliteration.

Although I love my job right now, I still feel financially behind and I’m thinking I want to start taking temporary, part-time admin jobs once the new hires start in around the end of June. I can get about 1.5 – 2x the hourly rate, but I won’t get the chance to do homework while at work. Temp work is ideal for me as well, because I’ll be able to see a bunch of workplaces and situations that will help me understand what is needed for the kind of software I want to make. I want to take my job duties beyond overly complicated spreadsheets.

Lol, the SEO program I use hates the way I write.
